Abstract of the special session:
Engineering structures are under the threat of different sources of hazards, e.g., earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, blast loads, etc., which may cause damage and even failure of the structures. To quantify the damage extent and ensure the structural safety, it is of great importance to develop reliable damage analysis and/or performance assessment methods, which should also account for different sources of uncertainties, as they will have a significant effect on the final results. Up to date, there are two major families of methods in this field, i.e., mechanics-driven and data-driven. Mechanics-driven approaches have a solid physical background while data-driven approaches are more rapid and robust. To take full advantage of both approaches, it is also popular to combine them for a better solution. The objective of this special session is to bring together researchers and engineers to present, discuss and exchange the latest developments in relevant fields. Fundamental researches and practical applications are both welcome.
