Abstract of the special session

Reliability analysis and design optimization of engineered systems inevitably encounter various uncertainties, from parameter uncertainty to model and data uncertainties. Some of them are aleatory uncertainties caused by natural randomness and can be parameterized by probabilistic models. Some others are epistemic uncertainties due to limited data and lack of knowledge. All these uncertainties must be appropriately quantified and manipulated in various engineered system analysis and design. Thereby, it is urgent to develop computationally efficient tools and algorithms to facilitate quantification propagation of various uncertainties in the practice of reliability analysis and design optimization of engineered systems.

This special session aims at presenting state-of-the-art theoretical developments and applications in dealing with uncertainty and reliability analysis for engineered systems, such as robotics, nuclear systems, machining tools, aeroengines, bringing academic and industrial practitioners together to tackle difficult problems of international concern.

Topics that are within the scope of the special session include, but are not limited to:

Aleatory and epistemic uncertainties

Non-probabilistic uncertainty qualification and propagation in the reliability analysis and design

Mixed uncertainty quantification and propagation

Simulation-based analysis and design under various uncertainty

Simulation model calibration and validation

Reliability-based multidisciplinary design optimization

Time-dependent reliability analysis methods

Dynamic reliability modeling and assessment

Sensitivity analysis under various uncertainties

Industrial applications: mechanical system, electronic and electrical systems, mechatronics systems, robotics, machining tools, nuclear systems, etc.
