Abstract of the special session:
Ship collisions against civil engineering works, such as bridges and sluices, occur relatively often and may have large consequences for both the structure and the ship. With increasing traffic, increasing size of ships and increasing speeds, the risk of collisions has increased. Building structures to withstand these forces result in uneconomic and very large structures. How to deal with these developments in a probabilistic way is the topic of this special session.
