Abstract of the special session:
Over the last several decades, the optimal control theory has progressed substantially and has been successfully applied to passive, active, semi-active and hybrid control for mitigation of structural vibration caused by strong excitations such as wind, earthquake and wave. Owing to the intrinsic uncertainties involved in extarenal loadings, structural parameters and measurement processes, uncertainty propagation needs to be characterized in the physical evolution process of structural systems with various control techniques. Stochastic optimal control, which combines the classical theory of structural control and optimization with the latest developments of uncertatinty quantification techniques, encompasses the tasks of quantitative characterization and reduction of uncertainties in both performace predictions and real-world applications of structural control systems.
The goal of this mini-symposium is to bring together researchers engaged in the field of stochastic optimal control of structures. Potential topics may include, but are not limited to:
